With the arrival of Tonale, Alfa Romeo makes a natural entry into electrification but, faithful to its attitude to performance and driving pleasure, it projects the advantages of the hybrid and plug-in hybrid scheme as a function of dynamism, the tradition of the brand and of its DNA, with the mission to reinvent sportsmanship in the 21st century.
Tonale brings to the C-suv segment the prerogatives of the 160 HP Hybrid VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) engine, exclusively for Alfa Romeo. It is a 1.5 petrol engine with variable geometry turbo combined with the Alfa Romeo TCT seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission with P2 48 Volt 15 kW and 55 Nm electric motor, capable of transmitting motion to the wheels even when the internal combustion engine is worn out.
Alfa Romeo chooses this technical solution to offer an authentic electrified experience. The transmission makes it possible to start and move in electric mode at low speeds, when parking and when sailing. This engine is available at launch and will also be available in the 130 HP Hybrid version, always coupled with the seven-speed Alfa Romeo TCT with 48 Volt P2 electric motor.
The pinnacle of performance in the Tonal range is guaranteed by the exclusive 275 Hp Plug-in Hybrid Q4, which records 0-100 km / h acceleration in just 6.2 seconds and a range, in pure electric mode, of up to 80 km in the city cycle (over 60 km in the combined cycle), best in class in the segment. The Q4 drive, standard for the Plug in Hybrid engine, guarantees an unparalleled level of safety and driving pleasure.
The engine range of the new Alfa Romeo SUV is completed by a brand new 1.6-liter diesel with 130 HP and 320 Nm of torque, combined with the Alfa Romeo TCT 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Thanks to dedicated technical solutions, Tonale sets itself as a reference in the segment in terms of driving dynamics. The impeccable dynamic behavior of a sports car is guaranteed by the best weight distribution and the most direct steering in the segment (13.6). It is also the only model in its category equipped with the Integrated Brake System (IBS) and to offer fixed aluminum vanes for operating the gearbox from the steering wheel.
The best braking performance is ensured in Tonale by the adoption of fixed calipers by Brembo with 4 pistons and self-ventilated front discs and solid discs at the rear. The completely independent McPherson suspension scheme with FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) shock absorbers was chosen for the Tonale.
To further enhance its exceptional road holding qualities, even on low-grip terrain, the new Tonale offers two traction solutions: Q4 all-wheel drive for the Q4 Plug-in Hybrid version and front-wheel drive for the Hybrid and Diesel versions, the latter. also equipped with Alfa Romeo electronic self-locking differential. The offer is completed by the Dual Stage Valve active suspension with electronically controlled damping.
From the beginning on the Giulietta, Mito and 4C, passing through the development with Giulia and Stelvio, the Alfa DNA driving selector arrives on Tonale in its maximum evolution which includes specific characteristics related to electrification.
This is the case of the accelerator pedal calibration, it guarantees more effective braking and a more direct steering wheel response. The Natural mode continues to maintain the best optimization of performance and the management of the compromise of use between the electric motor and the thermal engine is automatic.
In this way, in daily use, energy savings and consumption do not come at the expense of performance. The Advance Efficiency mode is calibrated to obtain maximum energy efficiency in the Hybrid version while in the Phev configuration the AE mode allows the model to proceed in full electric.
