For the commercial vehicle market, the new year starts with a little more sprint than last year. According to the estimates of the Unrae Study and Statistics Center, in January the registrations of vehicles up to 3.5 tons of total weight on the ground amounted to 12,335 units, an increase of 3.2% compared to January 2021 which had opened the year. rather subdued. Unrae underlines “the delay of our country in the replacement of the fleet, which with the current trend would take about 22 years to be completely replaced. Moreover, the average age of commercial vehicles circulating in Italy is close to 13 years, well above above 11.9 of the European average, according to recent Acea data “. Also evident is “the delay in the spread of electric vehicles, in a fundamental sector of commercial mobility in urban centers: in 2021 their market share, albeit growing, was just 2%”.
“A medium-term strategy is needed, with three-year incentives for vehicles with zero and very low emissions, which also take into account those with traditional combustion, with incentives paid only for scrapping”, explains the president of Unrae Michele Crisci .
“Even in the policies to support the demand for new electric motors, our country confirms itself as the rear of the big markets such as France and Spain which have provided incentives for their diffusion. In this perspective – concludes Crisci – it is necessary to develop infrastructures for the recharging of electric vehicles while, to support road transport companies, to renew the fleet and accompany the ecological transition, it would be necessary to double the tax credit rate from 6% to 12% and extend the benefit up to 2024 “.
