Green energy integrated in Charge myHyundai. The Korean company announced that, through the green charging option of the e-mobility service provider Digital Charging Solutions, it is integrating green energy into Charge myHyundai. This will ensure that for every public charging session made by customers through its pan-European integrated service, an equivalent amount of energy will be fed back into the grid as green electricity.
According to a 2021 study by the International Council of Clean Transportation, when battery electric vehicles like IONIQ 5 are charged with renewable energy, they generate up to 81% fewer emissions over the Well-to-Wheel life cycle, compared to a normal vehicle with internal combustion engine. However, drivers often do not know whether a public charging station produces green or ‘gray’ electricity (from non-renewable resources), as this responsibility lies with the facility operators.
Suppliers of ‘green electricity’ generate zero-emission energy using natural resources such as wind or solar energy, which is then converted into electricity.
An independent registry authenticates the green origin of each unit of energy produced, measured in MWh, through a certification.
“Hyundai is among the first to offer public green charging in Europe – said Michael Cole, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe – and by integrating renewable energy into Charge myHyundai, Hyundai is contributing to clean and sustainable mobility for all. . This ensures a sustainable future for generations to come, consistent with our Progress for Humanity vision. ”
