Daimler Truck suspends Russian operations and supplies to Kamaz

Daimler Truck, which is the world’s leading manufacturer of heavy vehicles, has suspended its activities in Russia until further notice, including ‘civilian’ cooperation with truck manufacturer Kamaz, which also supplies the Russian military.
AFP reports, reporting a statement from the German manufacturer that specified that “in relation to the events of the last few days, it has been decided to suspend our activities in Russia with immediate effect and until further notice”.
Kamaz, which is Russia’s largest truck manufacturer with over 44,000 vehicles produced in 2021, supplies the military with tanks and vehicles for their transportation.
“Cooperation with Kamaz is entirely civil in nature” – reiterated Daimler Truck. “with supplies to Kamaz covering only components for heavy civilian vehicles. The joint venture produces only non-military Mercedes trucks and Kamaz cabs.”
According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, the parent company Mercedes-Benz Group is also “examining” how to separate “as quickly as possible” its 15% stake in Kamaz.
