Trentino Trasporti: another 25 biomethane buses are in service

In the next few days, 25 new natural gas buses will enter service for the city of Trento. This is a supply of 12-metre class I vessels awarded to the company Solaris Italia srl (7 million euro contract awarded at a net price of 6,974,810.71 euro). The president of Trentino Trasporti Diego Salvatore communicates this in a note. The plan of the public transport company, shared with the Province and Municipality shareholders, aims to bring the urban methane fleet to around 85 units, capable of covering over 60% of the kilometers traveled in the capital. The new vehicles will be added to the 720 total of the Trentino Trasporti vehicle fleet. Of these, 238 are used for urban transport (the average age is 11.6 years) and another 482 for interurban transport (the average age is 9.7 years).

From 1 July 2021, after a few months of experimentation, a part of the biogas produced from the maceration of 60,000 tons per year of organic fraction of municipal solid waste produced in the province of Trento at the Cadino bioenergy plant, is sent to a modern purification for the production of biomethane. Fuel that is used for the propulsion of the Trentino Trasporti buses in service in Trento: from July 2021 to June 2022, over 5,800,000 kilometers in total in the municipality of Trento were covered for over 54% with methane. 95% of the requirement was covered by biomethane. Furthermore, the use of biomethane has reduced the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 4,000 tons and energy consumption by 5%.
