Through an official announcement, Bentley has communicated that the production of its 12-cylinder petrol engine will end in April 2024. For that period, more than 100,000 examples of the iconic W12 will be handcrafted in the Dream Factory in Crewe, England . This announcement was driven by the Beyond100 strategy, which will see the company’s entire model line fully electrified by the start of the next decade.
Before leaving the scene however, the W12 engine reached its maximum evolution for the 18 examples of the Bentley Batur that will be handcrafted by Mulliner, reaching a power of 750 HP and 1,000 Nm of torque.
Adrian Hallmark, Bentley chairman and chief executive, said: “After 20 years and more than 100,000 W12s produced, the time has come to retire this iconic powertrain as we make giant leaps towards electrification, but not without giving it the best possible greeting, with the most powerful version of the engine ever created”.
