The circular economy is once again the protagonist for the BMW Group, which will make the new Mini Cooper Se Cabrio the first production model to be produced with alloy wheels made entirely from recycled aluminium.
“As a premium manufacturer – said Nicolai Martin, senior vice president of Development Automated Driving – we take into consideration the sustainability of the development processes from the very early stages. The light alloy wheels of the fully electric open four-seater are an excellent example of sustainable use of resources and represent an important step forward on the road to the circular economy for the BMW Group”.
The first light-alloy wheels made of 100% recycled aluminum for a production vehicle are produced in cooperation with the wheel manufacturer Ronal. The use of recycled aluminum not only preserves the raw materials, but also eliminates the electrolysis process, which is particularly expensive in terms of energy and normally necessary to produce light alloys.
However, it is not only the alloy wheels of the new Mini Cooper SE Convertible that have been designed in a sustainable way, but rather the entire car that has been completely redesigned in terms of sustainability. The combination of lightweight wheels made of 100% recycled aluminum with aerodynamically optimized real metal inserts and an innovatively designed center cap provides a highlight that sets the model apart.
