Polestar opens its new design studio in Gothenburg

Cutting-edge design, electric traction and sustainability are the pillars of Polestar projects, which express the obsessive attention to detail adopted by the engineers of the Swedish brand. The same attention to detail shown by the new Polestar Design Studio inaugurated in Gothenburg, Sweden, near the brand’s headquarters. The facility houses up to 120 members of the design team led by Maximilian Missoni, in an environment that combines modern architecture with the brand’s clean, minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic.

Born out of a former Volvo factory, completed in 1984 by Italian Romaldo Giurgola and local architect Owe Svärd, the building has been completely renovated while retaining its architectural style. A place where the Polestar Design team will continue to evolve the stylistic language of the brand, anticipated by the Polestar Precept concept car and brought into production with the Polestar 3, launched in October 2022. The new structure includes an exhibition area, a workstation for clay processing, a material and color laboratory, an auditorium and multiple spaces for digital studios, executive offices and meeting spaces.

Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar, comments: “Since 1982, care, attention to detail and quality materials have been at the heart of the design and it was important for me to respect the original intentions when we integrated the our studio in the building. We deliberately showcased the original structure and details, respecting the context that gives the building its unique character. But while on the one hand – continues Missoni – we wanted to respect tradition, on the other we wanted this was a state-of-the-art home for our growing design team. So, in addition to the stunning westerly view of the Gothenburg archipelago, the studio has state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate our work and produce better results in the most efficient way “.
