Illegal storage of end-of-life cars and hazardous waste

Following the checks carried out by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Forestry Station of Recanati (Macerata), a real dump of out-of-service vehicles was discovered in an evident state of abandonment on agricultural land surrounding a house in the countryside of the Municipality of Montecassiano. In recent days, the forest police patrol, with the support of the Macerata traffic police section, carried out a joint check on the area, ascertaining the evident state of abandonment of 52 vehicles, invaded by vegetation and in some cases lacking essential parts for operation, deposited directly on the ground without any caution and without being subjected to any preventive treatment on an area without soil sealing, exposed to atmospheric agents and runoff in the absence of systems for conveying and disposing of wastewater. The presence of possible dangerous components (fuel, batteries, engine oil) and other waste deposited in an uncontrolled manner was found: 12 out-of-order methane cylinders, car parts (mechanical and bodywork components, 10 hatches, 5 bonnets, an unused engine block reclaimed), tires stored in bulk both inside a garage and outdoors in the surrounding area and 20 disassembled car batteries that were out of order. The entire area of about 200 square meters has been subjected to preventive seizure and now the owner and holder of the vehicles, owner of a used vehicle trading company, will have to answer for the crimes of illegal dumping and illegal management of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste as well as unauthorized management of end-of-life vehicles and waste consisting of their components and materials.
