Paid parking in Bologna smarter, with half the parking meters

Fewer parking meters positioned around the city, but easier to use. From March 1st, the payment method for parking on the blue lines in Bologna has changed. It will no longer be necessary to place the ticket on the dashboard of the car, just type the license plate on the parking meter, pay by credit card or debit card, and it will be possible to extend the stay time at any time from any parking meter installed in the city (or from apps ). The new payment system was illustrated today at a press conference in the Municipality by the councilor for New Mobility, Valentina Orioli and by Pietro Bacchetta of Bomob, the company that manages the parking.

“We have gone from 900 parking meters to 560 – explains Orioli – by some it may be considered a reduction in the service, but in reality it is not the case; we reduce objects in the public space and prepare an optimal location without penalizing users, who no longer have to go to the device to the car to leave the ticket”.

This is possible thanks to the “pay by plate” setting, which provides for typing in the license plate without having to go back and place the ticket on the vehicle. “The system produces an estimated benefit of 4000 km less traveled by users per month”, adds Bacchetta. The intervention to replace the most obsolete parking meters required an investment of 1.5 million euros and three different models were installed, all touch screens in the historic centre.

Parking can also be paid for using one of the apps available on the Bomob website. The ticket, which will no longer have to be placed on the dashboard, will in any case be issued in compliance with tax obligations and in response to the regularity of the parking, for any eventuality.
