Mahle and WMC together for English police electric scooters

In the coming years, the British police will patrol the towns of the Kingdom also using electric three-wheeled scooters. Mahle Powertrain and White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), in fact, are developing EV power systems for the transformation of the fleet of petrol and hybrid three-wheeled scooters currently in service of the King’s Order Forces into zero-emission vehicles. The project, in an advanced stage of implementation, provides for an initial experimentation with Yamaha Tricity 300s to be supplied also to the emergency services.
Once the tests have been completed, the last pre-production phase will begin next March which will lead to the transformation of a fleet of 300 three-wheeled scooters from the Casa dei Tre diapason: each will be credited with an autonomy of 100 miles per recharge cycle, about 160 km, enough to cover normal urban and extra-urban service needs.
To build the first prototypes, WMC engineers worked closely with Northamptonshire Police. At the moment some of the power unit components are still in the development and calibration phase to guarantee power levels, usability and recharging times in line with the particular needs of use.

The project, supported by the British Government’s Department of Transport and Innovation through the Niche Vehicle Network, focuses on the adaptation of Tricity both to offer zero-emission and high-efficiency emergency services and to guarantee a low-cost solution for last mile deliveries of parcels and consumer goods, thanks also and above all to the transformation of the scooter fleets already in circulation.
