Fines for driving after alcohol and drugs are on the rise

Infractions for driving after alcohol and drugs are on the rise, 6,426. Violations for failure to use safety devices, helmets and seat belts, and for using a mobile phone while driving amounted to 134,463. Anci notes this, in the report on the annual activity of the local police, according to which in 2022 there was a decrease in accidents with injuries compared to the data before the pandemic: they went from 76,099 in 2019 to 65,309. However, the growing involvement of weaker users, such as cyclists and pedestrians, in urban accidents is underlined. With regard to the offences, in 2,210 cases the crime of escape or failure to help was found.
“Among the violations, some data that raise concern emerge”, underlines the association of Municipalities. In the report, the Anci highlights in particular the growth of traffic violations for driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs (6,426 violations ascertained); the data on lack of insurance coverage (46,674 penalties, up on the previous year when they amounted to 42,029); violations for failure to use safety devices (helmets and belts) and for using a mobile phone while driving which amount to 134,463; finally, the heinous crime of fleeing or failing to help which was recognized in 2,210 cases.
