Stellantis: 155 million dollars in Indiana factories

Stellantis to invest $155 million in three facilities in Kokomo, Indiana, for the production of new electric drive modules (EDMs) that will enable to power electric vehicles assembled in North America to achieve the goal of covering 50% of sales in the US with Battery Electric Vehicles by 2030. With more than 25 battery electric vehicle (BEV) launches planned in the US by 2030, Kokomo-manufactured EDMs will be integrated into vehicles based on the STLA Large and STLA Frame platforms. The new optimized EDM will allow each platform to achieve up to 500 miles (800 kilometers) of range.

“As we successfully continue our transition to a decarbonised future in our European operations, we are now setting up these same building blocks for the North American market,” said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis.

“By combining the benefits of EDM with new BEV platforms and innovative batteries, we will be able to offer our customers a variety of EVs with unmatched performance and range at more affordable prices. And thanks to our in-house manufacturing capabilities and our expertise, we will be able to do it in an extremely flexible and efficient way”.

The investments will concern the Indiana Transmission, Kokomo Transmission and Kokomo Casting plants. The start of production is expected in the third quarter of 2024, after the conversion of the plants. Investment Will Maintain Over 265 Jobs Across Three Plants – Since 2020 Stellantis Has Invested Nearly $3.3 Billion In Indiana To Promote The Transition To Electrification
