Introduced in 2019, the ID.3 hatchback was the first electric model from Volkswagen based on the MEB platform. Two and a half years after the market launch of the first generation, and after several criticisms from users, the all-electric bestseller from the Wolfsburg manufacturer is now on sale with a complete upgrade.
“The new ID.3 confirms our commitment to offer quality, design and sustainability – commented Imelda Labbé, member of the board of management of the Volkswagen brand with responsibility for sales, marketing and after sales – The design becomes more adult, the materials used in the most valuable interior”.
First of all, the look changes: The specifically modified exterior details make the appearance of the ID.3 even more striking.
The newly designed front end gives the car a more dynamic look and the modern, lean shapes of the car body – which remained unchanged in the second generation ID.3 – demonstrate that the iconic look of the ID. it can evolve while remaining unmistakable.
When designing the new bonnet, the Volkswagen design team opted for greater use of body colour. The removal of the black strip below the windscreen and the optical elongation effect made possible by the lateral recesses make the bonnet appear longer. In addition, the optimized and enlarged air intakes at the front give the ID.3 a powerful and sporty appearance. An improved airflow around the front wheels (air curtain) perfects the aerodynamics.
The new headlamps – standard Led and IQ.Light Led Matrix as optino – and the rear light clusters not only underline the modern design of the ID.3, but also ensure better visibility on the road. In the rear area there is a brand new split optical unit. Now the part of the rear lights located in the tailgate is also illuminated.
The cockpit now shows an even more refined look.
By welcoming and implementing many customer proposals, ID.3 has been perfected and the standard equipment enhanced. An example of this is the improved tactile experience: thanks to even higher quality materials and the mix of functionality, aesthetics, tactile effect and structure, the passenger compartment is more welcoming and the man-machine interface is more satisfying. The door panels have been remodeled with softer surfaces and larger dimensions. Furthermore, the hand rails integrated into the doors are now more spacious and more noticeable. The Cnc (Computerized Numerical Control) seams, precise and with contrasting colors, increase the quality and give the interior of the ID.3 a successful combination of futuristic and traditional design. The high-quality materials allow for greater comfort and, consequently, also greater driving pleasure. With the ID.3, Volkswagen confirms its intention to offer high-quality technologies and innovations right from the compact class. This is the case of the ‘swarm data’ in the updated version of the Travel Assist system which takes another step towards highly automated driving.
Furthermore, the Park Assist Plus with Memory function makes it possible to recall the stored parking maneuvers and have the car carry them out on its own. Or, again, the Cloud-based voice control system and the head-up display with augmented reality which simplify the daily activities of those behind the wheel of the new ID.3.
New ID.3 is equipped with the latest generation software, capable of improving system performance and receiving over-the-air updates. Alongside the refinement of the controls, the ID software. it also offers functions that can be activated at a later time (Functions on demand).
Volkswagen thus responds to customer requests to be able to react flexibly to their needs and book services and functions as needed. It can do this, for example, for the navigation system or for the two-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, which electronically regulates the temperature, quantity and distribution of air.
Other important functions – such as EV Route Planner, Plug & Charge at fast charging stations or at home and the possibility of bidirectional charging (BiDi-Ready) – are standard, making the ID.3 perfect for everyday life as well as for long journeys.
“The ID.3 demonstrates its ability to live up to Volkswagen’s ambitions by offering high-quality technologies and innovations right from the compact class,” said Kai Grünitz, member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand, responsible for technical development. and this is reflected in the new comfort and assistance systems.” New ID.3 is available with 58 and 77 kWh batteries. The larger one in particular allows you to reach a range of up to 546 kilometers (Wltp) in the ID.3 Pro S. In the 58 kWh ID.3 Pro it is instead 426 kilometers (Wltp).
