Hyundai Kona, the new 2023 range is inspired by the electric

New Hyundai Kona sends out a strong signal. The 2023 model which will be available in the Ev (standard or long-range), full-hybrid and with internal combustion engine (ICE) variants without forgetting the N Line sports versions of each, was developed starting from the electric Kona, demonstrating the centrality of the Bev project.

Thanks to the points of superiority of the electric variant, such as the habitability / external dimensions ratio and many solutions aimed at improving the quality of life on board, the second generation of Kona aims to revolutionize the B-Suv segment not only with more space but also with improving features from all points of view, such as those of safety, practicality and efficiency.
“Kona Electric will play an important role, together with the models of the Ioniq range, in strengthening Hyundai’s leadership in the electric vehicle sector – said Jaehoon Chang, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company – The new Kona builds on the success of the first generation of the model and was designed and styled to excel thanks to the many outstanding features that characterize it”.
“At Hyundai we do not consider the electric vehicle revolution as a mere trend of the moment. We believe it is a game-changer not only for the industry but also for society. Through the implementation of eco-friendly mobility solutions like our models electric cars – underlined Jaehoon Chang – we hope to accelerate the transition to clean mobility and make progress for humanity”.
With its robust and dynamic design and its increased dimensions, New Kona maintains its iconic character, able to respond to the needs and lifestyles of customers of all generations, while offering new technologies and features that guarantee a always safe, connected and comfortable experience.
Compared to the previous generation, the new Kona features unique proportions and larger dimensions. Based on the EV variant, it is now 4,355 mm long (175 mm longer than before), with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm (+60 mm). The width is 1,825 mm, an increase of 25 mm, and the height has increased by 20 mm to 1,575 mm.
As part of Kona’s new layout, the ‘shift-by-wire’ shifter has been moved behind the wheel and many controls have been relocated to accommodate the open center console. There is also ambient lighting technology, which can also be updated via Over-the-Air (Ota) to improve its functions and add new ones.
Among the updates are the dual 12.3-inch wide screen, the Digital Key 2 Touch, OTA updates and the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC). The Electric version of Kona offers an all-electric range (490 km Wltp estimated) at the top of the category in the B-Suv segment and is equipped with specific elements for electric models such as the front trunk (frunk), active deflectors in the front , Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, Head-up Display (Hud), one-pedal driving mode (i-Pedal), Smart Regenerative System, electronic-Active Sound Design (e- ASD) and the Eco Package.
The entire New Kona range is equipped with the latest Hyundai SmartSense technologies with Adas and latest generation safety systems, capable of reaching a level 2 autonomous driving level. Among others, there are Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (Fca) , the Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) and the Driver Status Monitor (DSM). The abandonment of the conventional development process – starting from the endothermic version to get to the EV – following the opposite path to create a futuristic exterior starting from the electric version, accentuating the SUV character of the model to generate sensations of robustness and dynamism.
With a Cd of just 0.27, New Kona excels in aerodynamic performance without sacrificing style. Between the front end and the aerodynamically designed tailgate, sculpted wheel arches and parametric surfaces define the character of the model, with dynamic chrome lines connecting the waistline to the rear spoiler with integrated brake light (HMSL).
In the Ev variant, the Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamps and pixel-shaped style details add a distinctive touch. Bold exterior colors further emphasize Kona’s iconic design.
The N Line versions offer optional black mirrors, roof and spoiler and a more aggressive front and rear design with wing-shaped bumpers to emphasize the lowered stance. With some differences based on the powertrains, the N Line versions are also equipped with distinctive 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels, twin tailpipes and silver side skirts.
