Maserati returns to racing among the GTs with the GT2

The history of Maserati once again speaks of racing also through the GT2, designed for sports teams and gentleman drivers who will race in the GT2 championships. The trident’s new racing car was lit for the first time, on the track, at the Varano de’ Melegari racetrack. A series of appointments will follow which will be the prelude to the official presentation of the car which will take place at the end of June, in Belgium, on the occasion of the 24 Hours of Spa.

Maserati, with this new racing car, aims to once again be a protagonist in the GT championships, where the deeds of the glorious MC12 still echo. “The first days are always something unique – commented Andrea Bertolini, Maserati test driver – even more so for me who was lucky enough to lead Maserati to success during the GT1 world championships, winning 4 titles”. Specifically, the Maserati GT2 inherits the 463 kW/630 HP Nettuno V6 engine from the Maserati MC20, taking it to a higher level.

Furthermore, it takes advantage of technical specifications such as the new MTC (Maserati Twin Combustion) technology, covered by a patent and derived from F1 engines; the central monocoque in ultra-light carbon fibre; and integral composite bodywork. Particular attention has been paid to developing the correct downforce balance, and the underbody has been developed to work in synergy with the front splitter and adjustable rear wing. There is also a removable body with quick release, racing-style suspension components, and a six-speed sequential racing gearbox, as well as a carbon fiber dashboard complete with a 10-inch display integrated into the dashboard.
