High-tech production line for Renault Austral

For a high-tech vehicle with the new Renault Austral, even the plant where it is manufactured has been adapted to the fast-paced future. The investments made in the Palencia plant in Spain, where Austral is built and where the production of the Espace will soon also land, make it possible to guarantee top-level production quality and operability for the new SUV equipment.
Among these, there are 32 driving assistance devices, among which a latest generation head-up display stands out, with particularly accurate settings.
Precisely for the precise realization of the latter, two new ultra-modern calibration benches have been installed.
The involvement of the employees and the use of new extremely performing tools have made it possible to achieve the objectives in terms of high technology, which is guaranteed, at the end of the production line, by a rigorous quality control process. In addition to the quality that can be seen and that of the adjustments and finishes, the static and dynamic tests, human and mechanical, also guarantee the perceptible quality, good functioning and reliability of the technological equipment of New Austral.
The new generation head-up display (which displays driving information on a 9.3″ diagonal surface on the windshield) is part of the Adas manufactured in the Palencia plant with a process that guarantees optimal operating quality The small camera located behind the dashboard, next to the projector which transmits the information onto the windscreen, constantly checks the quality of the data displayed and adapts it to the lighting conditions.
“100% of Renault Australs with head-up displays – commented the Renault Assembly Department – pass on one of the two benches. In addition to assembling the New Austral’s head-up display, our factory sets and checks it.
We are increasing our skills to ensure the highest quality. These calibration benches are used in factories equipped with lines with the most advanced production standard of the Alliance”.
When the New Austral passes on the bench, the calibration of the information projection onto the windscreen is carried out by inserting a high-tech articulated arm equipped with an ultra-modern ad hoc camera into the passenger compartment on the driver’s side. This centers the image projected by the head-up display with respect to the inclination of the windshield.
To do this, it compares the image projected onto a 48-dot matrix against a theoretical position.
If necessary, the central computer communicates with the head-up display control unit to realign the dots of the matrix and take another measurement. If the points do not match the theoretical position, the software repeats the cycle until the perfect position is reached.
