In the Piaggio museum exhibition-tribute to the Navy, photo by Sestini

“From the sea to the sea” is the title of the exhibition-tribute to the navy inaugurated today at the Piaggio museum in Pontedera (Pisa) and commissioned by the industrial group, made up of 24 photographs by Massimo Sestini, considered, explains a note from Piaggio, “one of the most important Italian photojournalists who for more than 40 years have been telling the story of our country’s customs, politics and society: his shots transport the visitor into the heart of the daily (and enthralling) activity of the women and men of the navy, celebrating their greatness and sharing their values”.

The installation, on large backlit panels and created also thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Livorno, “helps to underline and amplify the immersive and engaging nature of Sestini’s shots, thanks not only to the use of the large and very large format, but also to the reproduction of the sounds of the sea that accompany the visitor: it will even be possible to ‘walk’ on the gigantic aerial photo of the submarine ‘Giuliano Prini’, caught in the moment in which it re-emerges from the waves”. In the immersive projection room there are videos produced by Sestini during his collaboration with the Navy and among these the one dedicated to the “Vespucci” stands out: also on display is the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale, a limited edition made in only 1913 numbered specimens; the number corresponds to the institution’s year of birth.
