The reform “drastically reduces the impact of gas on the price of electricity” explained von der Leyen, underlining the good functioning of the spot market, on the one hand, and the need to “improve long-term contracts”, on the other. The proposal, which introduces contracts for difference and energy purchase agreements, “is very well thought out and mature – she added – and is worth working hard to finalize before the European elections” in 2024.
