Renault Austral’s driving modes to the sound of ‘music’

With the Multi-Sense system, the new Renault Austral targets the driver’s ’emotions’. The technology adopted by the newcomer to Renault is in fact the one that allows you to change the behavior of the vehicle and the atmosphere on board, according to three modes such as Sport, Eco and Normal.

In terms of behaviour, the Multi-Sense system acts on power steering, dynamic driving control and engine and transmission responsiveness. For example, in Sport mode, the steering is stiffer while the engine and transmission are more responsive to commands. As for the atmosphere, the system also changes the colors and lights in the cabin and, depending on the vehicle, can also have an impact on the engine sound.

By combining the emotions of the Multi-Sense system with the driving sensations of 4Control, Renault engineers have multiplied the effects of the two technologies. “We noticed – they commented from the French house – that people were asking us for more customization”. Help in this direction came from music and in particular from one of the technicians who worked on the system.

“I was working in the kitchen – said the person concerned – when I got an idea thinking about Star Wars.

When you go to the speed of light, you push the cursor progressively and the car begins to move progressively”. The result of these musical and spatial reflections has led to the association of the 4Control Advanced and Multi-Sense Advanced systems on New Renault Austral, to offer the driver a highly precise and more personalized driving experience than ever before.

With the Multi-Sense button, accessible directly from the steering wheel, the driver can choose one of the three driving modes offered by the OpenR Link system: Sport, Eco and Normal.

These three modes provide by default sensations optimized by Renault engineers. Up to here there are no differences compared to what the previous generation already offered.

It is at this point that the full combined power of the Advanced versions is revealed. To accentuate, or dampen, the emotions caused by the basic settings, you can use the unprecedented intensity bar graduated from 1 to 13 available on the OpenR touchscreen, adjusting the car’s behavior in real time. Just like you do to adjust the volume of music on your amplifier, playing between bass and treble.
