EU funds to alternative fuel stations Enel, Sea, Edison

The EU Commission has announced that 26 projects from twelve Member States, three of which are Italian projects, have been selected to receive funding totaling €189 million for the installation of alternative fuel infrastructure along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T ). The three selected Italian projects were presented by Enel X Way, Sea and Edison.

The project by Enel X Way is related to the development of a European network of high-power charging infrastructure for electric vehicles for the electrification of mobility and the decarbonisation of the transport sector of the road transport sector. A unitary contribution of 21.38 million euro is envisaged. More specifically, the project aims to build a network of 902 150kW recharging points for light vehicles in 167 locations, all with a connection to the grid of at least 600kW, located along the TEN-T road network in Italy, Spain and Romania. The project presented by SEA is worth 14.67 million in eligible costs for which 4.4 million in contributions are recommended with the Connecting Europe Facility and concerns the electrification of the ground operations of the Milan airport. More specifically, it aims to supply 34 power supply points for fixed aircraft and 24 battery chargers for ground operator operations at Linate, and 50 power supply points for fixed aircraft and 55 battery chargers for ground operator operations at Malpensa . In addition to 55 loaders for ground handling operations at Malpensa airport. The project presented by Edison concerns hydrogen mobility on the Ten-T corridor. Out of 18.9 million eligible costs, 5.68 million contributions are recommended with the Connecting Europe Facility. The project aims at the construction of three hydrogen refueling stations for heavy vehicles, including 3 electrolysers, in three different sites in northern Italy along the Ten-T core network.

“Applications for funding from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility continue to rise, demonstrating the transport sector’s commitment to shifting towards sustainable solutions,” Transport Commissioner Adina Valean said in a statement. “Our investment of 189 million euros will lead to the construction of around 2,000 charging points and around 63 hydrogen refueling stations Four projects will support the electrification of groundhandling services at airports, including electrification and installation of charging infrastructure for service vehicles”. The facility combines grants from the Connecting Europe Facility with capital from financial institutions to increase the impact of investments. The other countries involved in the selected projects are: Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands.
