24 Hours of Le Mans 2023: 62 cars will be at the start

The appointment for the start of the 100th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, valid for the 2023 world endurance championship, is set for 4 pm on Saturday 10 June. There will be 62 cars on the track, divided in the following order: 16 Hypercars, 24 LMP2s, 21 LMGTE Am cars, and an Innovative Car. In addition, ten reserve teams stand ready to take over the competition should anyone withdraw. In the premier class, the number of cars taking part is the highest since 2011, when 17 LMP1s raced. To complete the picture, the presence of 12 former winners of the French endurance race stands out among the list of 186 drivers still being defined. Among the Hypercars, seven manufacturers will compete with the names of Ferrari, Porsche, Peugeot, Cadillac, Vanwall, Glickenhaus and Toyota.
Among them, Ferrari returns to the premier class at Le Mans after 50 years.
In the LMP2 class, on the other hand, there will be 24 teams ready to challenge each other, eight of which will be represented in the race by crews made up of professional and amateur drivers. The LMGTE Am grid at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will see eight Porsche 911 RSR-19s, seven Ferrari 488 GTE-EVOs, five Aston Martin Vantage AMRs and one Chevrolet Corvette C8.R compete, for a total of 21 cars that will be driven on track by professional pilots and gentlemen drivers. Among the Innovative Cars, racing outside the official classification, will be a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 of the Hendrick Motorsports team, making its first appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Specifically, the car is a modified version of the Next Gen car that competed in the 2022 Nascar Cup. A symbol of the collaboration between France and the United States in endurance, it will be entrusted to a star team made up of Jenson Button, Mike Rockenfeller, and seven-time Nascar Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.
