Two new Fiat electric cars arriving in the second half of 2023

The multi-titled B-suv Jeep Avenger has been unveiled, in the context of the Stellantis ex FCA brands the wait is now all for its direct ‘relative’ to the Fiat brand which in 2023 will inherit its positioning in the range from the 500X.

A model which according to press sources could be called the 600 – to emphasize its popular value – and which should make its debut with the big trump card of being able to be offered – thanks to the Stla Small multi-energy platform. The same as Avenger – both in petrol and pure electric Ice versions.

It should be emphasized that this architecture is shared with models of the former PSA group and is used in particular for the Opel Mokka and Peugeot 2008. In the configuration used in the Polish factories of Stellantis in Tychy, it is the basis on which the Jeep Avenger (petrol and 100% electric) and which will be used for the next Alfa Romeo B-Suv. During the presentation of the 2022 results, the Group’s CEO Carlos Tavares himself had referred – showing the slide dedicated to Fiat – to two new BEV models with a launch date in the second half of 2023.

It is almost certain that in the first case it will be the model produced in Tychy and closely related to the Jeep Avenger, with a presence even after the first pre-launch phase (the fully operational debut will take place in 2024) which will be parallel to the 500X.

Indeed, the latter should have left the scene next year but the more than satisfactory commercial performance should have prompted the Group – according to some media – to extend production until the end of 2025 – the beginning of 2026 at the Stellantis plant in Melfi. However, the identity of the second new Fiat-branded electric model is uncertain. According to numerous sources it would be the Topolino, i.e. the ‘Turin’ version of the Citroen Ami quadricycle. Olivier François, CEO of Fiat, spoke about this small town two months ago in an interview with the British magazine Auto Express.

The biggest challenge so far in talks with partners Citroen and Opel – François had underlined – was to guarantee the production volumes necessary for Fiat to be able to engage in the project.

And since Stellantis recently announced a further investment of 300 million euros in the Kenitra plant in Morocco, where Ami is produced, potentially bringing the capacity to around 50,000 quadricycles a year, the conditions would seem to be in place for the debut of Mickey Mouse. These small city models “are cubes – Fiat’s number one told Auto Express – and the real design challenge is to create sexy cubes. If there is one brand that can do it, it is Fiat”.

The Italianized version of the electric quadricycle could therefore carry the Topolino badge and – to be sexy – offer an openable fabric roof, a prerogative not available on the Ami or Opel Rocks-e.
