Volvo Trucks has delivered its first electric truck in Africa: an FE Electric model equipped as a compactor. Purchased by the Moroccan waste collection company Arma, the ecological vehicle will soon enter service in the city of Rabat.
Also available in variants for transporting consumables and for light construction work, the Volvo FE Electric is credited with a gross weight of up to 27 tonnes.
Configurable with short, comfort, long or low entry cab, it adopts a 330 kW engine with maximum power peak at 400 kW and can be equipped with 3 or 4 batteries, for a range of use from 120 to 200 km per cycle of charging.
Compared to the analogous diesel proposal from the same manufacturer, the Electric variant allows, when used as a compactor for waste collection, a saving in CO2 emissions of 30 tons every year.
“This is a proud moment as we take the first step towards more sustainable electric transport in Africa. This clearly demonstrates that zero-emission electric vehicles have an important role to play in parts of the world Volvo is the first international brand with heavy electric vehicles in commercial operations in Morocco.
We have the broadest line of electric trucks in the industry making it possible to electrify a large part of heavy haulage today.”
