Cyber ​​attack on Ferrari, ‘we will not give in to blackmail’

Ferrari suffered a cyber attack and received a ransom note related to some contact details of its customers. It was the Maranello house that made it known late in the evening after informing the competent authorities. “In line with its corporate policy, Ferrari will not accept any ransom requests as agreeing to such requests would finance criminal activities and allow the authors of the threats to perpetuate their attacks” clarifies the company which has already suffered cyber attacks in the past, even if absolutely not comparable to this. The Maranello company is a very attractive target for cyber criminals who try to steal information: in this case relating to customer contact details, but in general, designs, products and patents, which are very valuable on the market, can also be tempted. Unlike recent cases that have involved other companies, Ferrari’s operations have not been blocked and in fact the blackmail request does not concern the company’s business which continues regularly. The company “immediately launched an investigation in collaboration with a world-leading cybersecurity company. Furthermore – he explains – we have informed the competent authorities and we are sure that they will do everything in their power in carrying out the investigations”. Of course, information to customers, the target of computer pirates, was among the first moves of the Maranello company. “In the belief that the best course of action is to inform our customers – says the company – we have notified our customers of the potential exposure of their data and the nature of the event”. “Ferrari treats the issue of the confidentiality of its customers very seriously – underlines the company – and understands the importance of what happened. We have collaborated with experts to further strengthen our systems, of whose solidity we are confident. We can also confirm that the violation did not had no impact on the operation of our company.”
