In Biella mobility with e-bikes, cars and electric scooters

The project that aims to facilitate travel through a sustainable network made up of electric scooters, e-bikes and electric cars was presented in Biella. “For us, the imperative is to look ahead” – these were the first words of the President of the Ener.bit company, Paolo Maggia, during the press conference to present the Sustainable Mobility project.

During the presentation it was explained how, through sharing with the municipalities of Biella and its belt, i.e. Ponderano, Gaglianico, Sandigliano, Candelo, Vigliano Biellese, Occhieppo Inferiore and Occhieppo Superiore, the new mobility sharing service was designed through a “conurbation” process, i.e. the connection between a major pole and the satellite municipalities with a sustainable mobility system in line with the ways of moving in large urban centres.

Also present at the press conference were two of the project’s main players, the managers of 5T srl, a company specializing in mobility projects, Tiziano Schiavon and Andrea Chicco who actively collaborated with Ener.bit for an ad hoc study on the Biella fabric. We then talked about numbers, going on to crunch the most important data: 8 Biella municipalities involved in this first phase, 75,000 inhabitants, 47 square kilometres, 80/100 hubs, a number of vehicles involved in the first phase of 250 scooters, 250 bicycles and 10 cars.

Among the various topics covered, the organizational aspect linked to vehicles and safety could not be missing: “The systems have improved a lot – declared the two managers of 5T – and the difficult abandonment situations are disappearing, thanks to the remote control of the vehicles and how to pay for use. You start paying from the moment of activation until you return it within a hub, thus avoiding wild abandons”.

From the first design phase we will now move on to the official expression of interest and the final stages of the project with the signing of the agreement with the chosen operator, the creation of the workstations and the start of the service, precisely at the beginning of summer 2023.
