Over the weekend, the Turin traffic police checked 233 vehicles and 364 people, twelve of whom were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and three tested positive for drugs. The checks, with three crews, were carried out with the help of medical and nursing staff from the provincial police health office. Drivers positive for alcohol, with a blood alcohol level above 0.81 grams per liter, as well as having their driving license revoked, have been reported. However, those who tested positive in the preliminary drug test had their license immediately withdrawn pending the outcome of the final second-level analysis. If positive, the report for driving while impaired due to drug use will be triggered. For other reasons, eleven vehicle registration certificates and seven driving licenses were withdrawn and 97 infringements of the Highway Code were contested, with 264 license points deducted. The controls, as evidenced by the road traffic, have been set up to limit road accidents in the province, with causes often attributable to driving impaired by alcohol or drugs, or to the use of smartphones or other devices while he’s behind the wheel.
