Aspi, Genoa subport tunnel construction sites in June

Autostrade per l’Italia’s goal is “to open the construction sites for the preparatory works for the construction of the Genoa sub-port tunnel in June, which will not be subject to tolls and whose management will be the responsibility of ASPI”. This was confirmed by Autostrade per l’Italia’s ‘Special Projects Genoa’ project leader Alberto Selleri on the sidelines of a meeting with students from the University of Genoa. The work is foreseen in the memorandum of understanding signed between the local institutions, the Government and Aspi in October 2021 to restore Genoa from the damage caused by the collapse of Ponte Morandi. The 3.4-kilometre-long double-tube tunnel will connect the Canepa seafront and the Genova Ovest tollbooth with the Foce and the area of the new Levante Waterfront. It was excavated by a 16-metre diameter TMB boring machine mounted in a shaft obtained through the demolition of the CSM warehouse in the heart of the port of Genoa. At its maximum point, the route will be 45 meters below the level of the sea bed, with a forecast of excavated rocks referring to Antola limestone (70%) and clays (30%). “The project is being examined by the Superior Council of Public Works with whom we are speaking, they have asked us for small additions and in parallel the regional authorization procedure is going ahead, tomorrow we will deliver to the Liguria Region the additions that have been asked of us. If it deems them sufficient the Liguria Region will publish the project and anyone will be able to make observations, then the Services Conference will start”, explains Selleri. “The first preparatory works are the excavation of the well at the CSM warehouse where to place the mole, the displacement of the interference and the reclamation of war devices”, he adds. The schedule calls for 65 months to build the two tubes, the first year and a half for the preparatory works for the tunnel, in one year the mole will dig the first tube and then move on to the second. The municipal councilors for public works and transport, Pietro Piciocchi and Matteo Campora have announced a series of meetings in the town halls to discuss the project with citizens, collect observations and proposals.
