Donington Circuit will host Caterham 50th anniversary rally

A maxi gathering and two days of celebrations will enliven Caterham brand lovers next autumn, on the occasion of the brand’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The British manufacturer has scheduled two days of celebrations with its international clientele for the weekend of 2 and 3 September at Donington Park.
Enthusiasts and cars from all over the world are expected at the English circuit. In half a century of activity, the Dartford-based company has produced 22,000 cars, offering over 100 variants of the legendary Seven, the extreme two-seater designed by the great Colin Chapman and presented in 1957 as the Lotus Seven.
Caterham Cars, which bought the production rights to the model in 1973 from Lotus Cars and re-proposed it, updating it over the years, has kept it faithful over time to the original philosophy which focused on lightness to enhance driving performance.
Today the Kennet Road brand has its strong point in the very light iconic car: it is offered in two sizes and six versions, for driving emotions which in the SV variant are also suitable for extra-large size riders. The announced protagonists of the Donington event are the new products for 2023: the Seven 485 and Seven 485 CSR models. Both are equipped with the Ford Duratec 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 237 HP, the most powerful with Euro 6 approval ever adopted on this car.
The former, the new top of the range in terms of performance, is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 224 km/h. For the second new entry, built on the wider chassis, it is worth noting the adoption of Formula 1-style front suspension and rear independent wheels. Its speed performance is equally important: 225 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
In relation to the planned event, Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars, said: “We are very proud of our heritage and look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary. Today’s Seven can still share a strong visual resemblance to car from 1973, but much has evolved under the hood to ensure that this truly iconic car delivers a modern driving experience, whilst continuing to offer unrivaled fun and excitement.
We have exciting plans for the brand in the coming years and aim to increase our production capacity and develop new versions.”
