Auto: Winkelmann, “clarity is needed on synthetic fuels”

“The best thing is to have clarity.

This is the only way we have the possibility to invest without taking a wrong turn. Uncertainty with our production cycles is not okay. For our cars it takes 5 years of development and then 9 years of life cycle”. This was stated by Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, speaking of the agreement on the use of e-fuels and EU legislation prohibiting the registration of combustion vehicles from 2035.

“We have more time to intervene on super sports cars and we don’t have to decide now. We will evaluate in the future whether synthetic petrol will give us opportunities on a global level. I don’t think before 2027. We need clarity and we will have to make decisions on what will happen after 2030. Synthetic petrol is neutral like CO2 but in the end it emits CO2 when the car drives. If we want to reduce NOX and fine particles the only solution is to develop Euro 7 cars but then we will have to see if in a decade cities will say if they are still going Well”.

“We have long since embarked on the path towards electrification which will lead us to have two cars, including the Urus, fully electric by 2028/2029. The birth of Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid car, is part of the second part of the Cor Tauri Management program: the most important investment plan of our company, 2.5 billion euros by 2028. In the coming years, our company will face stimulating challenges and the next objectives to be achieved are the hybridization of the entire range in 2024, reducing overall emissions by 50% in 2025 and then by 80% in 2030”.
