Toyota: Update global sales records in February

Toyota’s global sales update the record for the month of February, supported by the recovery of the domestic market and the easing of criticalities in semiconductor sourcing. The Japanese automaker sold 773,270 cars worldwide in the second month of the year, an increase of 10.3%, and a value that more than quintupled in Japan with almost 156,000 cars, thanks to fewer restrictions on Covid in the country and the improvement of production capacities.

Global sales are also good, excluding Japan: +3% to 755,800 units, which represents a record for February. Toyota last month reduced its global output target for the fiscal year ending March 31 to 9.1 million passenger cars from 9.2 million, citing shortages of automotive semiconductors.

The revised target still represents a record, with the world’s largest automaker expecting to produce a record 900,000 vehicles this month.
