Easter sting, petrol is back above 2 euros

A new sting arrives for Italian motorists, with petrol once again breaking through the two euros per litre. You hardly remember an Easter, except for the years of the pandemic, that didn’t record pump increases. This year is the same, thanks to the recent cut in oil production decided by the cartel of producing countries, OPEC+, which has caused international prices to skyrocket. In fact, crude oil now travels over 80 euros a barrel and pump prices of refined products soar when millions of Italians set off on the road. With greater spending on holiday travel that consumer associations value at around 120 million euros. The latest government surveys on about 18,000 fuel plants capture the bitter surprise: unleaded petrol per ‘served’ is back above 2 euros and Codacons has traced cases in which it even reaches 2.5 euros per litre. As usual, you save with do-it-yourself: self-service petrol – reports Staffetta daily – is at 1.872 euros per liter (+7 thousandths, companies 1.876, white pumps 1.863), while diesel is at 1.771 euros per liter (+ 2 thousandths, companies 1.776, white pumps 1.760). But you spend more on the motorways: self-service petrol is at 1.937 euros per litre, with served petrol exceeding 2 euros. And self-service diesel is also at 1.852 euros per litre, but when served it flies to 2.128 euros per litre. Codacons denounces: fuel prices are once again close to 2.5 euros per liter on the motorway, while on the smaller islands the price lists have already brought down the threshold of 2.1 euros per liter. And it provides a series of documented cases of pump price lists communicated by managers to the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. According to the latest data published on the ministry website, petrol in served mode has already reached 2.499 euros per liter on the A21 Turin-Piacenza, and the same price is recorded for diesel (again in served mode) on the A12 Genoa-Sestri . On the A1 Milan-Naples petrol reaches 2.449 euros per litre, diesel 2.349 euros per litre, while on the A13 Bologna-Padua motorway you spend 2.399 euros per liter for green petrol, 2.456 euros per liter for diesel. On the A22 Brennero-Modena, then, a liter of petrol costs up to 2.439 euros, diesel 2.389 euros. Prices are also high on the A14 Bologna-Bari-Taranto (2.392 euros per liter for petrol in served mode, 2.449 euros for diesel) and on the A15 Parma-La Spezia (green 2.349 euros, diesel 2.449 euros). Prices at the pump are also rising on the smaller islands: in Capri a liter of petrol reaches 2.119 euros per litre, 2.039 euros for diesel, and it’s even worse in Ischia, where green costs up to 2.154 euros a litre. The president of Codacons, Carlo Rienzi, comments: “Compared to Easter last year, petrol costs 6.5% more today, with an increase in expenditure equal to almost 6 euros for a full tank which risks causing a sting from overall 120 million euros only for the higher refueling costs”.
