Motorization bribes, an official ends up in prison

The investigating judge of Palermo Filippo Serio had ordered the arrests in prison for the 58-year-old motor vehicle official Luigi Costa, accused of corruption and abusive access to the computer system. Costa, whose home the agents found over half a million euros in cash, had ended up under house arrest during an investigation by the traffic police into bribes to the motor vehicle to guarantee a preferential lane for some car registration agencies, the practices test and the duplication of registration certificates. The aggravation of the house arrest was decided because the suspect, as ascertained by the judicial police section of the traffic police, would have continued to communicate with another suspect via a telephone number in the name of her daughter. During the operation, 21 officials and managers of motoring practice agencies ended up under investigation: eight civil motorization officials and another 13 responsible for some practice processing agencies. “Repeated violations of the prescriptions imposed by the judge were reported by Costa who allegedly used a telephone number in the name of his daughter to communicate with third parties who did not live together.

He would have contacted a user registered in the Sicilian Region almost daily but used by a suspect in the present proceedings”. He was nailed by some interceptions from which it emerged “the use of alternative communication systems with the complicity of family members”.
