A new Mini on the way, actually two.
The first definitive images of the electric Cooper model (which will debut in May next year) and which were ‘stolen’ during an advertising shooting in California, in fact show that the Bev family, developed with partner Great Wall and destined to be produced in China will not differ in design from the tradition of the brand. And the same thing should happen when the thermal (and naturally electrified) Minis produced in Oxford arrive on the market. Mini Cooper Electric 2024, as a result of a successful restyling of the previous hatchback bodywork, wears a new chic look that is more modern and premium – but also less retro – incorporating some elements of the brand’s history but losing stylistic features (such as the wheel arches in plastic material) which weighed down the look.
Under the bonnet will be a single electric motor driving the front wheels (just like the outgoing Mini Cooper SE) but with a bigger battery and increased range to be truly competitive. According to some specialized media, the range should consist of the 135 kW Cooper EV (the power of the current one), the 160 kW Cooper SE and a high-level John Cooper Works ‘peppery’, which could produce about 186 kW.
At the same time, two months later, a second Mini hatchback will be presented, only with 3 doors, with internal combustion engine that should follow the progress of electrified engines in the BMW field. This model is expected to use a deeply modified version of the current UKL1 platform, with an increased wheelbase and adapted to accommodate larger wheels.
