Euro NCAP: trucks and road trains are also under scrutiny

The Euro NCAP assessments for cars, from today, will also be applied, with the necessary adaptations, to trucks and road trains used for the transport of goods. The need also arises from the fact that in Italy and in Europe the transport of goods takes place mainly by road. Thanks to an innovative “Truck Safe City and Highway” evaluation system, it will be possible to evaluate the safety level of heavy vehicles in urban areas and on motorways. “Accident statistics tell us that compared to 1.5% of heavy vehicles circulating on European roads, accidents involving trucks and lorries are 15% – said Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy – with a view to ‘zero accidents’ on the roads, it is important that active safety technologies are also used on commercial vehicles”.
Through the results of the tests, drivers of heavy vehicles and commercial fleet managers will be able to count on further elements to evaluate the safety level of their vehicles. In addition, manufacturers of trucks and road trains will have references to improve the offer of technologies related to safety.
