Over the long Easter weekend (April 7-10) the Asaps Observatory, the Polstrada Supporters Association, recorded 40 deaths (35 over the three days of the weekend and 5 on Easter Monday): 18 motorists, 14 motorcyclists, 3 pedestrians, 3 cyclists, a van driver and a scooter driver. Two multi-fatal accidents, which caused seven victims. Two fatal accidents occurred on the motorway, 19 on state and provincial extra-urban roads.
Vehicle escaping without third party involvement was the cause of 14 fatal accidents.
Of the 40 victims, 17 were under the age of 35: the oldest victim an 85-year-old man, the youngest a 10-year-old girl. There were 8 deaths in Piedmont, 6 in Emilia-Romagna, 5 in Puglia and Tuscany, 4 in Veneto and Lombardy, 2 in Trentino Alto Adige and one in Liguria, Lazio, Campania, Calabria, Sicily and Marche.
