Province of Pisa reinvests fines money in road maintenance

The Province of Pisa has collected 13 million euros from fines for violations of the highway code and eight of these will be invested in the maintenance of the dense road network owned by the provincial body. “It is – explains the provincial president, Massimiliano Angori – a total sum whose result is given by the sum of the penalties raised in Fi-Pi-Li, a part of which are transferred to the Metropolitan City for the maintenance of the SGC, by the penalties high along provincial roads and by generally high penalties for having committed infringements of the highway code”.

Part of these resources, continues Angori, “is also used for administrative management costs and to develop both directly maintenance interventions on the road sections under our responsibility and to plan interventions through the development of the design of the same maintenance, also through the assignment of tasks to highly specialized external professionals: a virtuous circuit that the Province realizes completely through its own resources, which are rather undersized compared to the competences attributed to our institutions, and which allows us to work towards a constant improvement of the viability aimed at increasing safety on the road both with deterrent means to discourage imprudent driving behavior and through the creation of a renewed and more usable and safe road network”.
