Tobias Sühlmann since September chief design officer of McLaren

After directing the Bentley style center, Tobias Sühlmann will return to McLaren Automotive (where he worked until September 2021 when he was chief designer for special projects) in the position of chief design officer next September. Reporting directly to Michael Leiters, managing director of McLaren Automotive Con, Sühlmann will work out of the McLaren Technology Center in Woking, Surrey and be responsible for every aspect of the brand’s design, He will lead a design team whose roles range from future concepts, styling exterior and interior, color and materials, often working directly with customers to customize their vehicles before they are hand built in the adjacent McLaren Production Centre.
Sühlmann has over 20 years of experience in automotive design. After graduating from Pforzheim University in 2005 he joined Volkswagen the same year. He subsequently became head of exterior design at Bugatti and head of exterior design at Aston Martin before joining McLaren and then becoming director of design at Bentley, his last role before returning to Woking.
