As in last year, in 2023 BMW will resume its role as official partner of the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, supplying the 76th edition of the famous festival and some of its official partners with over 200 fully electric or plug-in hybrid cars, such as the brand new XM extension.
A premiere of a different but equally exciting kind awaits visitors to the film festival at the Port de Cannes: it is the innovative vessel The Icon developed and built by BMW in collaboration with the nautical manufacturer Tyde. The Icon offers emission-free mobility on water and embodies a progressively different interpretation of luxury. The future-oriented design was created in the BMW Group Designworks studio.
At the Festival, the BMW Films division will also continue to tell its tradition of film production dedicated to its models in the main roles of exciting short films such as the famous The Escape and The Hire. “We are delighted to be able to continue our official partnership with the Cannes Film Festival – said Jens Thiemer, senior vice president customer & brand BMW – The festival is committed to becoming younger, wittier and more digital, which makes this partnership the ideal platform for our luxury products.
We celebrate in Cannes the premiere of the new BMW Films production, the latest production of our legendary series.
Furthermore, with both The Icon and the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, we are creating a compelling blend of luxury, innovation and sustainability.”
From 16 to 27 May 2023, directors, actors and VIPs will be able to take advantage of the shuttle service on the various transfer routes for the event, with departure and arrival at the Palais des Festival et des Congrès in Cannes. The fleet of BMWs – all with electrified powertrains – will glide through traffic in almost complete silence and with zero local emissions.
A ‘red carpet’ of asphalt that will see the fully electric iX M60 xDrive and the XM first high-performance model from BMW M GmbH plug-in hybrid. The spotlights are also on the BMW iX5 Hydrogen with hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology which opens up another path towards the sustainable mobility of the future.
Festival guests traveling in the i7 will be able to discover the BMW Theater screen, the 31.3-inch panoramic display located in the rear of the all-electric sedan.
The Theater Screen extends from the ceiling to the front seatbacks and spans almost the entire width of the interior to offer an entertainment offering that is unmatched and transforms the second row of seats into an exclusive personal movie theater on wheels.
