Van Hooydonk, “with cleaner and more modern design electric cars”

“Design is very important in the automotive world both to solve technical problems but above all it is what allows us to create an emotional contact with people”. This was stated by Adrian Van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group design during a meeting with the press at the Villa d’Este Elegance Competition which took place in Cernobbio from 19 to 21 May.

The contest was also an opportunity to talk about the style of past, present and future cars. It was precisely at Villa d’Este that BMW exhibited the Concept Touring Coupè as a world premiere, a shooting brake where the style center of the Monaco-based company drew inspiration from the 1940 328 Touring Coupé Mille Miglia.

According to Van Hooydonk, with the advent of electric motors, there will be “greater possibilities for designers to create more space inside cars thanks to fewer car components. It is – he added – a new, much cleaner design language. and modern and therefore the next cars from my point of view will be very interesting. To keep up with the times we need to reinvent our brands both in terms of technology and design, always keeping the driver at the center of attention”.

Finally, Van Hooydonk recalled that the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este is a fabulous event: “you meet people who love design and mobility and this is always a fantastic experience. Design is celebrated in all its forms”.
