Stellantis and Vulcan develop geothermal projects

Stellantis and Vulcan Energy Resources have signed a binding agreement for the first part of a multi-phase plan for the development of new geothermal projects with the aim of decarbonising the energy mix of the Stellantis industrial site in Mulhouse, France, where they are produced the DS7 cars, Peugeot 308 and e-308, 508 and the new 408. According to current hypotheses, the project could cover a significant part of the annual energy needs of the industrial site starting from 2026.

“This partnership with Vulcan reinforces our commitment to promote clean energy solutions across our company,” explains Arnaud Deboeuf, chief manufacturing officer of Stellantis. “It represents one of several initiatives we are exploring to achieve our goal of zero carbon emissions by 2038, in line with our Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.”

The agreement with Stellantis increases Vulcan’s impact on the decarbonisation of the European electric vehicle industry, complementing the elimination of carbon emissions resulting from the Zero Carbon Lithium project.
