“Stop the savage removal of the dB-killer from motorcycle mufflers”: the appeal comes from Confindustria Ancma, the national association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories, which announces in Italy the guidelines to limit the noise emissions of motorcycles developed by the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (Acem), in collaboration with the main operators in the aftermarket exhaust sector. The aim is to avoid divergent and ineffective interpretations of the anti-tampering regulations for exhaust silencers and to clarify the technical requirements to ensure the robustness of the fastening solutions of the silencer baffles and dB-killers, in order to prevent their easy removal.

Satisfied with the initiative says the general secretary of Acem, Antonio Perlot who in a note underlines the desire to “bring together the skills of recognized players in the motorcycle sector and tackle one of the main causes of motorcycle noise on the streets. Today they are still present on the market approved silencers with baffles that are too easily removable or dB-Killer, which can cause unacceptable noise levels” but “by proposing cutting-edge solutions, the guidelines will help approval authorities to achieve a more harmonized assessment of silencer compliance with anti-tampering standards The call is now on all interested parties to apply them without delay”.

For the president of Ancma, Paolo Magri, “we are facing a concrete signal which, in addition to correctly transposing and interpreting the legislation, also goes in the direction of protecting the quality of this sector and overcoming some prejudices linked to motorcycles” . The initiative “constitutes a very clear message also for enthusiasts and producers of exhausts which could potentially be placed outside the regulatory context”.
