Volvo Ex30 is the small SUV of the sustainable future

The smallest Volvo SUV ever takes the Swedish company directly into the future that is around the corner. In fact, the new arrival Volvo Ex30, a small premium SUV that expands the Volvo range of fully electric cars, was presented in a world preview today in Milan.

Everything in the Ex30 is designed to be sustainable, technologically advanced with the aim of making the electric driving experience as pleasant as possible, for the most diverse uses. With a price starting from 36,000 euros, it places Volvo’s premium electric SUV in the cost range comparable to an equivalent vehicle but with a heat engine. The Ex30 will also be available as a Care by Volvo subscription package, with fixed rates and a transparent and simple ordering process.

“The all-electric Ex30 may be our smallest ever SUV, but it represents a great opportunity for our customers and for us as a company,” said Volvo CEO Jim Rowan. “We like to point out that the Ex30 is small but powerful, because it offers everything you could want from a Volvo, but in a more compact package.”

On the design front, the Ex30 encapsulates all of Volvo’s hallmark construction principles, but in a smaller format. The long wheelbase and large wheels aim for a balance of the exterior, between the closed grille and a ‘digital’ interpretation of the ‘Hammer of Thor’ projectors. Five are the shades provided for the bodywork, from the elegant Cloud Blue to the luminous Moss Yellow, the latter inspired by the lichens that grow on the rocks along the Swedish west coast.

Designed to satisfy every need, even batteries. Volvo has in fact decided to leave customers the freedom to choose the battery technology that best suits their needs, offering the Ex30 with three powertrain variants and two different battery types.

For those who spend most of their time in the city or tend to travel shorter distances, there is the single-motor option with a standard-range LFP battery that is more cost-effective and less resources needed for its production.

If you prefer to maximize range, the Single Motor Extended Range variant with extended range NMC battery is the ideal choice. This single engine, extended range option provides a range of up to 300 miles between charges. If, on the other hand, performance is your priority, the Twin Motor Performance variant is also available, which combines the NMC battery with an additional electric motor.

The extended-range Twin Motor variant has a charging capacity of up to 153 kW, while the standard model has a capacity of 134 kW. This means that you can charge the battery from 10 to 80% in just over 25 minutes. The central display in the car and the app allow you to set the amperage, the maximum charge level and when you want to start charging.
