what is the balance sheet for the bonuses and bonuses launched a year ago?

DECRYPTION

What does the French car fleet look like now? Due to massive aid, put in place at the time of the first deconfinement, it is in full renewal. One year later, this is the opportunity to take stock of these bonuses and bonuses. The big news is the explosion in sales of plug-in hybrid cars. They represented barely 3% of sales in the first half of 2020 and now amount to nearly 8%. Electric and thermal, it is the transitional vehicle while waiting, in particular, for the network of charging stations to be really efficient.

A fundamental trend

The attraction for these new engines is a fundamental trend, explains François Roudier, spokesperson for the French Manufacturers’ Committee (CCFA). “We see that we have really changed the world completely,” he comments.

“If we take into account the all-electric, plug-in hybrid or non-plug-in hybrid, we arrive, over six months, at figures that exceed diesel. That is to say, the second source of motorization in France after gasoline, it is the electrified vehicle “, adds the spokesperson.

Electricity slowing down, disappearance of the conversion premium

Note all the same a slight slowdown in recent months on 100% electric. Premiums are not everything and tend to go down. Since Thursday, the bonus for the purchase of an electric car has increased, for example, from 7,000 to 6,000 euros.

As for the conversion bonus, which went very well last summer, it has almost disappeared from the radar, underlines Lorraine Morard, automotive analyst at IHS Markit. “The French had already, for the most part, replaced the vehicles which were eligible. They therefore rushed a little when they saw these new amounts of aid. Afterwards, it was much calmer, in particular because the amounts were less important, ”she decrypts. “And there, things will accelerate even more since diesel are no longer even eligible. Now, we will no longer be able to replace our old car with a diesel.”

A positive finding to be noted in the results of this aid, which aimed to reduce the number of diesel vehicles: over one year, the rate of CO2 emitted by the French vehicle fleet fell from 132 to 107 grams on average, a historic low. reached in June.
