It’s not too late to find a summer job

If you are a young person looking for a summer job, it is not too late to find what you are looking for … On the contrary. After a new year marked by the coronavirus epidemic and its share of uncertainties, “there are a lot of offers at the last minute”, ensures on Europe 1 Etienne Gless, chief investigator Job for the magazine The Student.

“Many recruiters also do it at the last minute. It is linked to the very gradual lifting of health constraints”, continues the journalist. “There is a considerable number of announcements which begin with ‘urgent’, ‘as soon as possible’, in particular in tourism, hotel trade, catering.” And those summer jobs can range from “from a campsite that is still looking for a receptionist to a motorway service station that has not yet found its versatile agent, a creperie that needs a pancake maker, etc.”

The hotel and catering sector is looking for people

The hotel and catering sector is particularly demanding, as more than 100,000 people have left the industry. “Even beginners are accepted. Even very young people can take a waiter job,” says Etienne Gless.

Currently, “some restaurants limit the gauge or the opening hours because they do not have the staff … So the kitchen assistants, the divers, the receptionists, are always welcome”, says the guest again. Europe 1. “This is where young people have a card to play. If we cannot find an experienced candidate, we will give a young beginner a chance.” “Young people can also think of sectors like agriculture and tourism,” he concludes.

The job “covid”

This particular year marked by the pandemic also saw the emergence of new “covid” jobs. “We have offers of agents in seasonal Covid vaccination centers,” explains Etienne Gless. “We will have to orient people, manage waiting lists, process files, manage appointments, disinfect surfaces.”

Etienne Gless advises on the other hand to respond “quickly” to offers. But where to go to find these famous ads? Interested young people can visit the website of L’Etudiant, but also “on that of Pole Emploi, on the website of the Youth Information and Documentation Center (CIDJ), or on the government website Un jeune, a solution by checking the seasonal box “, lists Etienne Gless.

Other options: “There is also the site L’agriculture-recrute to find a job in agricultural work, or Jobanim for offers in animation.

Hard to get more than the minimum wage

What about remuneration? Can we hope for better than the minimum wage? “It’s difficult because the principle of the job is still an unskilled job most of the time, so beyond the minimum wage, it will be very difficult,” replied Etienne Gless.

“But when you have skills, you can develop them. For example, there is a lack of lifeguards on the beaches. You need a national certificate in first aid and water rescue. So if you have that diploma, you can negotiate because there are really few candidates, ”he adds. He also advises young people to try to opt for a job “that is fed, housed”.
