In Ukraine, from the beginning of 2022, the price of meat began to rise. Thus, prices for chilled pork in January were on average 7.7% higher than a year ago, while beef went up by 31%, and chicken carcass and fillet – by 28% and 30.5%, respectively.

This is evidenced by the data of the Association “Pig Breeders of Ukraine” (ASU).

Like other types of meat have risen in price:

  • beef – by 31% (UAH 195.6/kg)
  • chicken carcass – by 28% (73.5 UAH / kg)
  • chicken fillet – by 30% (122.65 UAH/kg)
  • steak and pork loin – by 10-11% (151 and 164 UAH/kg);
  • hip and neck – by 3.5% (116.5 and 147.9 UAH/kg).

Analysts note that pork has risen in price due to global inflationary processes and an increase in live bait prices in early 2022.

Thus, the purchase price of live animals in January 2022 was on average 47 UAH/kg. At the same time, this level does not cover the rapid rise in energy prices and further growth in the cost of feed ingredients.

This means that pork producers continue to operate on the verge of profitability or even at a loss.

What about the rest of the products?

In the first month of 2022, grain prices were rapidly rising in Ukraine. For example, for one kilogram of buckwheat, they now ask for a little more than 50 hryvnia. Compared to December 2021, rice, millet and buckwheat have increased in price for 3-4 UAH.

  • millet – 21.67 UAH / kg;
  • long rice – 41.90 UAH / kg;
  • round rice – 35.20 UAH/kg;
  • buckwheat – 50.85 UAH / kg.

Cheaper only steamed rice: UAH 35.68 to UAH 35.23
