The head of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, supported Germany’s decision to stop the certification of Nord Stream 2 and expressed the hope that the new decision of the Ministry of Economy would designate the project as a threat to the security of gas supplies.

Vitrenko wrote a post about this on his Facebook page, and on Twitter the decision of Germany supported Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

If the new decision labeled the Russian gas pipeline as a threat to the security of supply, this would be grounds for the regulator to completely refuse certification.

“This is a demonstration that Germany is in solidarity with Ukraine, in particular with our position on Nord Stream 2, which we have been conveying to the new government in recent months,” Vitrenko wrote.

Kuleba called such a move correct from a moral, political and practical point of view.

“Real leadership involves difficult decisions in difficult times. Germany’s move proves this,” the diplomat wrote.

Stopping certification of Nord Stream 2

On February 22, in response to Russia’s recognition of the independence of the “LDNR” pseudo-republics, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz asked the Ministry of Economy to withdraw the report on ensuring energy security from the Federal Grid Agency.

It means that Nord Stream 2 certification stopped and to start it, the German Ministry of Economics will re-evaluate the project, and until then it will not be launched.
