BASF: in 2021 sales + 33%, profit of 5.5 billion

Fashion, in 2021 at pre-crisis levels but not in Italy (ANSA)

(ANSA) – MILAN, FEBRUARY 25 – Basf closes 2021 with global sales that reached 78.6 billion euros, 33% more than the previous year. Profit is 5.5 billion “2021 was a significant and successful year for BASF and 2022 also opened very positively” commented Martin Brudermüller, CEO of the group, presenting the financial results this morning. “We have increased sales prices by 25% and volumes by 11%,” he added. Basf proposes a dividend of € 3.40 per share, compared to € 3.30 paid the previous year. All segments experienced price and volume growth, but the most significant contributors to earnings came from Chemicals, Materials, Surface Technologies and Industrial solutions.

The group expects a substantial price adjustment in the coming months. To weigh, the continuing shortage of semiconductors which negatively impacts on activities related to the automotive sector and the sharp increase in the prices of raw materials and energy and logistics costs, particularly evident in the fourth quarter of 2021. Basf reports that for the usual European sites, the Additional costs due to the further increase in natural gas prices in 2021 amounted to approximately € 1.5 billion, with the fourth quarter of 2021 alone accounting for € 0.8 billion of that amount.

Basf confirms its investment agenda – in particular the large project for a new Verbund site in China and the development of batteries for the automotive sector – and its commitment to reduce its absolute CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to reference value of 2018.
