(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 25 – Lira and euro twenty years later: the “Official celebrations of the Italian Lira and the Euro” will be inaugurated on Monday 28 February, starting at 12, with many initiatives throughout Italy. To open the event, from the Trevi Fountain in Rome, will be Mara Venier, testimonial and godmother. From the Trevi Fountain, Don Pietro Sigurani, “priest of the least”, will express a message of hope so that a “source of dignity” may be born for those who live in disadvantaged conditions.
The event is conceived by the journalist and professor of Unimeier Sandro Sassoli, promoted by AEREC – European Academy for Economic and Cultural Relations, which will donate contributions to the needy – with the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the Municipality of Venice “Celebrations 1600 years “, of the Municipality of Rome and the media partnership of ANSA.
Students from different regions also participate in the initiative, including Piedmont, Puglia, Lazio and Veneto, to whom a specific theme was proposed on the memory of the Lira and the introduction of the Euro: many drawings and thoughts arrived.
The Lira, a note from the organizers recalls, is also rooted in Italian culture with many citations in cinema (Totò scam by Camillo Mastrocinque from 1961; Accattone by Pier Paolo Pasolini of the same year, etc.), in the theater (Filumena Marturano by Eduardo De Filippo from 1946; Luigi Pirandello’s rattle cap from 1916, etc.) in music.
