how the SNCF wants to recover this summer

While this Saturday marks the start of summer vacation departures, the SNCF expects attendance slightly higher than that of summer 2020, which had also been marked by the pandemic. Several new features have come into force and should allow the railway group to regain color.

For this first weekend of great departures, nearly a million travelers are expected in the stations and the SNCF is ready. Very largely affected by the Covid-19 health crisis, with a halving of train ridership in Europe in 2020, the railway company will be able to offer an almost normal transport plan. It hopes to attract even more passengers than in previous summers.

No less than 10% more travelers than in 2020, this is the objective set by the SNCF for this summer 2021, which will mark the start of several new features: the arrival of ceiling prices thanks to the Advantages card, the possibility of exchanging or getting a refund, free of charge up to three days before departure or an option that allows you to choose your place in an Ouigo. These low-cost TGVs are still attracting just as much, with 25% more requests compared to 2019 and new destinations opening up to Brittany.

All the railway workers on the bridge

SNCF also hopes to attract more and more young people to its trains, often for economic and ecological reasons. This is why the TER pass has been renewed, amounting to 29 euros for one month of unlimited travel.

With an attendance already at 85% for the month of July, all the railway workers will be on the bridge. Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon and Nantes are the most booked destinations, for a summer when 74% of French people will travel mostly in France according to an OpinionWay survey for Oui SNCF.
